Description

LAMPBLACK is a limited comic series written by Camille Longley with art by Pablo Peppino and letters by Joel Saavedra. It’s an oversized 8.5×11 inch landscape comic in a sweeping cinematic style. Lampblack has everything you expect in a coming-of-age story: horrifying ink monsters, wondrous forbidden magic, American Sign Language, runaways, and a cat (of course).

Lampblack is a story of friendship, family, and war, set in a fantastical world depicted in stunning detail. If you’re a fan of Studio Ghibli, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Sabrina, or Pokémon, you will love exploring the world of Lampblack–a place filled with incredible creatures and fascinating magic.

The story follows Mabel Aoki and Sterling Cohen, and is set in a charming early 20th century world.

Mabel’s immigrant family can barely scratch out a living in their backwater fishing village. When her mother loses her job, Mabel knows their only hope is in the magic they brought from the motherland.

Mabel is an ink girl, born with the ability to bring anything she paints to life. It’s a dangerous gift, one she is forbidden to use. But she can’t put down her brush. She won’t. She was born to paint, and the ink allows her to create beauty and magic out of her simple life. She will save her family with her art, whatever the cost.

Sterling Cohen is Deaf, and the only heir to Caraday’s largest industrial conglomerate. His father is a tyrant–in commerce and at home. But Sterling dreams of becoming a soldier, and wants desperately to abandon the family business to serve his country.
